INTRODUCTION

About Me
Assalamualaikum and hi to blog readers. My name is Izzatul Hasyirah binti Khairul Annuar and I am 18 years old. I am from Kuantan, Pahang and I got an offer to further my studies at university level in Diploma Computer Science at UITM Raub, Pahang after my Unit Pengambilan Universiti (UPU) application was successful. I am very excited when I got this course even my parents not really agreed because I really want to know how programming produced. I did many research on this program so that I can challenge myself and believe that Computer Science course makes my future successful. My main purpose writing this portfolio is to share the content and strategies that I have utilized in UED 102 throughout this semester.

What is UED 102?

Study Skills or known as UED 102 is an important learning skill for every student in going through university life well such as get ready with university's life, effective time management, setting goals,  learning strategies and processing information from lectures and texts. That will help students to study smart not study hard.

MODULE 1: GETTING READY TO LEARN

Making the move from high school to university is not easy for some student including me. When we entered university, we need to find new friends, be independence and face many new things such as we may have volatile classes so we must be alert with the instruction that our lecturer given. Meanwhile, in high school you no need to think about you classes because all students have the same time with you on weekdays.                                                                                              


There are many characteristics of successful students:



Based on the list of learning styles, I think I am more into visual because its made me easy to understand using images. Besides that, the type of solitary learning styles are sometimes made me more focus and confident with my works. So now I know my learning styles and can follow it to stay focused on my studied.

MODULE 2: Goal setting & learning management system

What is GOAL? 
An idea of the future or desired result a person 

how to set our goals? 

1. Set SMART goals that motivated and write it down to make them feel tangible.   

2.  Plan the steps. Take to realize the goal, and cross of each one as you work through them.

Why we must set  goal? 

*long-term & short-term motivation--> organize your time and your resources so that you can make  the most of your life                                                                                              

*raise your self-confident--> you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals

M - Measurable (or Meaningful)  
A- Attainable (or Oriented)         
R- Relevant(or Rewarding)          
T- Time-bound (or Trackable)       

From this module I got a lot of knowledges about how to set my goals not only for  academic but for my future too. I did a task given by our the lecturer which is we  directed to write the list of my goals that I want for 5 more years.

MODULE 3: time management & organizational skills

TIME is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. 


REDUCING PROCRASTINATION 

As a student we should not waste our time with the things that cannot give us benefits. This is because it can make us be procrastination or postponing what should be taking care now.                                              




PRIORIZATION

There are four prioritization which are do, defer, delegate and delete. For 'do', it means we must done quickly and 'defer' means we need more time to do the task. Meanwhile, 'delegate' is someone else can help and do the task together. Lastly, 'delete' is you must remove it from your time management because it is not really important for you.

HOW TO MANAGE TIME? 

There are many time management tools that people can use by using smart phone. For example, calendar, reminders and keep.

MODULE 4: MEMORY, IMPROVING & READING SYSTEM 

We need to understand how information is learned and to understand the need of using various kind of active learning strategies in learning.

WHAT IS MEMORY? WHAT IS BRAIN?

MEMORY is the retention of information over time (Santrock, 2011) or mind stores and remember information (mental processes / cognition), like computer software.

BRAIN is the organ, like computer cell.


COMPUTER COMPONENT VS COMPUTER ANOLOGOUS TO HUMAN 



Memory strategies will help students in their encoding, storing, and retrieving the information. There are many memory strategies:
  • write it down
  • association
  • repetition
  • visualization
  • categorization
  • talk it out
  • cues
  • set locations
  • routine

HOW FORGETTIN CAN OCCUR?
  1. did not pay attention
  2. did not understand
  3. last minute study 
  4. not have good study
  5. having two exam in the same day
  6. negative thought

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY?
  • massed practice(cramming) vs spaced practice(taking breaks between learning session)
  • break reading material down
  • rehearsal
  • elaboration strategies (associations, acronyms, acrostics, imaginary, organizational strategies, comprehension monitoring strategies)
  • concenteration

MODULE 5: TAKING LECTURE NOTES 

HOW TO TAKE LECTURE NOTES?

1. Be prepared before taking lectures notes such as print and read the notes that given by lecturer before the class started. There are many benefits if students 
take this action for example:
